Martis Creek Wildlife Area / Tompkins Memorial
Trail:
Located on Highway 267 past Northstar if driving from Lake Tahoe.
Located just past the Truckee Airport if driving from Truckee.
Directions: From Highway 267 from Truckee go approximately 3 miles.
There is a small brown sign on the left of the highway that says
"Martis Creek Wildlife Area” where you will turn right.
Go down the dirt road which ends with a small parking area that
has restrooms.
There are 14.6 miles of trails that you can follow using maps that
are posted throughout the park. Many times you can pick up a map
at the beginning of the trail head.
Hiking is at its' best in the late spring, summer and fall. During
the winter, most of the trails are unaccessible.
The trails run along a beautiful running creek that provides dogs
with water and fun play. There are a number of hiking options from
40 minute hikes to hikes that can go for 1/2 day. There are picnic
tables and garbage cans along the trails.
